Information Technology Organizations
Focus on Information Technology (FIT) is an innovative secondary-school certificate program that pathways students through ICT related courses. Developed by the Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC), FIT strives to create a prepared and innovative workforce by encouraging youth to engage in technology and business studies. The programme is carefully aligned to provincial curriculum, allowing students to meet the requirements of their provincial diploma, while pursuing certification. Students are required to concentrate in one of four FIT areas of specialization that include: Interactive Media, Network and Operations, Software Design and Development, and Business and Information Analysis.
Extreme emphasis has been placed on encouraging female participation and extra resources have been provided for girls interested in ICT. Offered in both official languages, and recognized by industry and government, FIT is an exemplary programme that should be advocated by all educators and guidance councillors.
