Mentors have proven to be invaluable in helping put girls on the road to success. They gain confidence, imagine all their life possibilities, realize that they are not alone – others have gone through what they are experiencing – and so much more. Great speakers can educate, engage, exude leadership, passion, empathy, humour, genuine caring and sparkle. Unfortunately, speakers who do not know their audience, are not great. You can help them by giving them as much information about their audience, your girls, as you can. Most importantly, remind them that they are not speaking to their peers.
Here we hope direct you to where to find mentors and speakers – go to 'career resources' for specific industry mentor/speaker resources – what to look for, how to work with... .
The Canadian Women's Foundation has some wonderful girls mentoring webinars . They have launched an online webinar series that brings groups together to develop and strengthen their programs by exploring best practices, pressing issues and programming considerations for girls group mentoring.
